Southern Lee falls big on Senior night

The Southern Lee Cavaliers celebrated the annual senior night Friday at home, but all the joy went away early as Harnett Central scored often in a 62-14 win at Cletis B Gore Stadium.

The Trojans used a powerful and quick strike offense, both through the air and the ground to score on their first seven possessions take a 55-7 halftime lead. Senior wide receiver Kessler Petrarca got the Cavaliers on the board in the first quarter with a 39 yard touchdown run on a reverse to make the score 14-7 the first.

But less than two minutes later, the Trojans connected again on a score, then put up 41 unanswered points to put the game away early. Southern Lee came out in the second half in a running click and put together a nice drive when Junior Quarterback Caleb Coro connected with Petrarca on a brilliant catch and run 56 yard touchdown that cut the lead to 55-14 with 4:30 left in the third. Petrarca, with a catch in the second quarter, became the all time leading receiver in yards in Southern Lee history.

The Cavalier defense despite the yards and points given up, were able to cause two turnovers on the night and the team was penalized just three times on the night, a vast improvement over the last few weeks.

Southern Lee (0-6, 0-9)  travels across town to Lee County (1-5, 1-8) for the annual Brick City Bowl next Friday, October 30^th.
